Mikel doubtful for Drogba reunion

Nigeria international midfielder, John Mikel Obi voiced his delight, in December 2013, about the prospect of Chelsea facing Galatasaray in the round of 16 of the Uefa Champions’ League.

Mikel said he was thrilled at the prospect of reuniting with his old teammate, Didier Drogba; now on the books of the Turkish side.

“I'm sure he (Drogba) will text very soon, he's probably having a drink after seeing the draw, but it will be great to have him back,” Mikel told the club’s official website, chelseafc.com.

It now appears Mikel will not have the chance to play in the first leg of the tie after all after the Chelsea Manager, Jose Mourinho revealed that the Nigerian could miss the game through injury.

Mikel sat out Chelsea’s 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham and now faces a race to be fit for the Wednesday’s game against Galatasaray.

"We have three days so let's see," Mourinho said in his press conference after the win against Everton on Saturday.

He added that he was uncertain if Mikel and his Brazilian team mate, David Luiz (also currently nursing an injury) can recover in time for the game.

"With Mikel and David Luiz, I don't know if they can recover. It's important we have at least one of them because we don't have (Nemanja) Matic for the Champions League," he said.
