John Obi Mikel has been included in the Chelsea squad to face
Turkish club, Galatasaray in the first leg, round of 16 Uefa Champions
League clash on Wednesday.
Mikel was rated doubtful for the game after he missed Chelsea’s 1-0
Barclays English Premier League win against Everton on Saturday.
Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho confirmed that the Nigerian
midfielder and Brazilian, David Luiz, who also missed the Everton game,
were facing a race against the clock to be fit for the game against
Galatasaray during his press conference on Saturday.
"With Mikel and David Luiz, I don't know if they can recover. It's
important we have at least one of them because we don't have (Nemanja)
Matic for the Champions League," he said.
Mikel has however been included in the squad for the game against
the Turks. The development was ratified in a release posted on the
club’s official website, www.chelseafc.com.
“David Luiz and John Mikel Obi are both included (in the squad to face Galatasaray).
“They missed Saturday's win over Everton due to injury and Oscar
also travels. Jose Mourinho reported after Saturday's game that the
Brazilian attacking midfielder, who was substituted at half time, had
discomfort in his ankle,” the statement read.
Mikel trained with the rest of the Chelsea squad at Cobham on Monday morning before embarking on the trip to Turkey.
